Lakhimpur Kheri will be the center of controversy again on Thursday, May 5, 2022, when 25 farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, as well as Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait, hold a meeting in the district to decide their “next move.”
Members of the farmers’ union are also expected to meet with local officials to ask for a speedy trial in the case, as well.

Farmer leaders say that Ajay Mishra Teni, the MoS for Home, is still in charge even though the government said it would investigate the issue.
Ashish Mishra, the son of Teni, is the main suspect in the Kheri case. He has killed four farmers and a journalist with his car.
The lawyer for farmers in Kheri court, Harjeet Singh, said: “People from four states who belong to farming unions will come together in Kheri, India, to support their brothers in jail who are accused of being lynched. Their families say that “officials are making them change their statements against the minister’s son while they are in jail.” People from the farm union would meet with the district magistrate and the police chief. Rakesh Tikait and other people would be there as well.”
The head of a farm union in Shahjahanpur, Manjeet Dhaliwal, “We want witnesses to be safe right away. Despite an FIR, there has been no action taken against the person who did this, even though there was a threat.”
Further, a maha panchayat is also expected to be held in Kheri on May 10, the next hearing date in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. The court is expected to set charges against Ashish and the other defendants on that day.
