LB Harold Landry agrees on an $87.5 million deal. 

On the open market, there’s a Pro Bowl pass rusher. The Tennessee Titans didn’t even have to use the franchise tag to keep him.

The Titans decided not to put outside linebacker Harold Landry on the roster. Instead, they agreed to terms on a reported five-year, $87.5 million deal on Tuesday.

The team made the deal official Tuesday night, but they didn’t say what it was worth. People say that Landry will get $52 million to $52.5 million.

As of now, Landry will make $20.25 million next season, which is more than the $18.7 million figure for linebackers who aren’t guaranteed a spot on a team in 2022.

Tennessee started the day projected to be over the salary cap by $7.8 million. Still, they will spread Landry’s new money out throughout the deal, with the edge rusher making $17.5 million per year.

They had until 4 pm ET on Tuesday to use the franchise tag, but Landry wasn’t one of the eight players tagged during the two-week window.

Landry, who is 25, had 75 tackles, 12 sacks, and a forced fumble for Tennessee in 2021. 

He was chosen for his first Pro Bowl. Landry has had 31 sacks in 64 games (52 starts) for the Titans, who drafted him in the second round of the 2018 draught from Boston College after he played there.
