Liu quits U.S. Figure Skating Championships after the positive COVID-19 test

Liu quits U.S. Figure Skating Championships after the positive COVID-19 test.

The two-time champion of the national championship Alysa Liu has pulled out of the U.S. Figure Skating Championships after testing positive for COVID-19.

Instead, Liu plans to apply for one of the three spots in the U.S. Olympic team, U.S. Figure Skating said on Friday.

Liu placed third on Thursday following the score that was 71.42 in the women’s short program at Nashville. Liu will not participate in Friday’s free skating due to being positive for the test.

Liu is the latest well-known U.S. skater to withdraw from the championships following the pair team of Alexa Knierim.

Brandon Frazier was forced to quit the event after Frazier contracted the illness.

Knierim and Frazier asked for two places on the team headed towards this month’s Beijing Winter Games. A final squad will be selected when the competition is over this weekend.
