Liverpool Requested Arsenal to Delay Match due to COVID-19 Cases

Liverpool Requested Arsenal to Delay Match due to COVID-19 Cases.

Liverpool has requested the English Football League (EFL) to move the first stage in their League Cup semi-final against Arsenal on Thursday because of the club’s increase in COVID-19 cases. The Premier League team said on Tuesday.

Liverpool has canceled Tuesday’s first-team training session.

“The Reds have formally requested to the EFL that the fixture be rescheduled after further suspected positive tests were registered among players and staff, allied to other factors impacting selection, including illness and injury,” the club stated in the announcement.

“Among the considerations which led to today’s application to the EFL is the need for traveling supporters to be given as much notice as possible of any potential postponement.”

Director Juergen Klopp, goalkeeper Alisson Becker and forward Roberto Firmino, and defender Joel Matip were all ruled out of the draw 2-2 against Chelsea on Saturday after positive retests.

Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara Fabinho, and Curtis Jones were also forced to be isolated last month.
