Lok Sabha By-Elections: Voting starts in Azamgarh and Rampur seats in UP: Samajwadi Party is vital in the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha seats of Azamgarh and Rampur, where voting started this morning.
In the byelections, which will determine the destiny of 19 candidates, more than 35 lakh people are eligible to vote.
Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party and an MLA who won election to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly earlier this year, resigned, forcing the need for by-elections for the Azamgarh seat.
Senior Samajwadi Party official Azam Khan, also elected to the state Assembly, relinquished the Rampur seat.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, voting begins at 7 am and will go until 6 pm.
According to an official announcement made here, two general and as many expense observers have been assigned by the Election Commission to monitor the polls.
According to the statement, additional deputies include 291 sector magistrates, 40 zonal magistrates, and 433 micro-observers.
A sufficient number of federal and state personnel have been deployed to ensure the security and peaceful conduct of the elections. The security of EVMs and strongrooms is now the responsibility of central troops.

13 candidates from Azamgarh, where 18.38 lakh people are eligible to vote, are running for office, according to authorities. From Rampur, which has 17.06 lakh electors, six candidates are running.
The SP selected Asim Raja, who Khan personally chose, while the BJP fielded Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi, who had just joined the party. The Mayawati-led BSP does not contest Rampur.
In the race for the Azamgarh seat, the BJP’s Dinesh Lal Yadav, commonly known as “Nirhua,” the SP’s Dharmendra Yadav, and the BSP’s Shah Alam, better known as “Guddu Jamali,” will square off.
9,70249 males, 8,67,942 women, and 36 votes of a third gender make up the 18.38 lakh voters in Azamgarh. According to officials, the constituency, where an estimated 15% of the population is Muslim, has 2,176 booths set up at 1,149 voting locations.
The SP prevailed in the most recent assembly elections in all four assembly districts under this Lok Sabha seat: Azamgarh, Mubarakpur, Sagdi, Gopalpur, and Mehnagar.
Akhilesh Yadav handily defeated Dinesh Lal Yadav “Nirahua” of the BJP with 6.21 lakh votes during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, which were held under an alliance between the SP and the BSP.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, campaigned for the two BJP candidates while top BJP officials stayed away this time.
Dimple and Akhilesh Yadav did not run for office in the byelections. Azam Khan earned 5,59,177 votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, compared to Jaya Prada of the BJP, who received 4,49,180 votes and Sanjay Kapoor of the Congress, who lost his deposit.
