London Met Police chief Cressida Dick resigns amid scandals.
LONDON: London police head Cressida Dick quit on Thursday. The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, told reporters that he had told him he wasn’t satisfied she could eliminate the gender-based discrimination, racism, and other issues that were present within the police department.
The trust of confidence in Metropolitan Police has been shaken by the abduction, rape, and murder of the victim, Sarah Everard, by one of its officers and the recent revelations about a culture of harassment, discrimination based on race, and misogyny within the central London police station.
Khan stated that he had clarified to Dick the magnitude of the changes that he felt were urgently needed in order to rebuild Londoners confidence within the Met and eliminate homophobia, racism, sexism, discrimination, bullying, and misogyny.
“I am not happy with the response of the Commissioner,” he said, saying that after receiving the news, Dick had offered her resignation.
“It’s evident there is only one way to bring about the transformation required is to create new leaders in the middle of Metropolitan Police,” Khan stated.
Dick stated that she was left with no option but to quit.
“It is with great sadness that, following a conversation to the mayor of London today, it’s obvious that the Mayor has lost enough confidence in my leadership,” she said.
Dick an experienced counter-terrorism officer, became the first female to head London’s 193-year old police force, which is also known as their name, the Scotland Yard headquarters.

The Interior Minister Priti Patel extended her employment contract back in September.
Dick claimed that the death of Everard, as well as “many other terrible cases in recent times,” affected trust; however, the police force been focusing its efforts on rebuilding trust.
Khan pointed out Dick’s response to the report about the conduct of 14 current police officers from Charing Cross Police for making her job untenable.
“The response of the Commissioner wasn’t quite up to the level of transformation required within the Met Police Service,” the broadcaster was told by the Commissioner.
Prime Secretary Boris Johnson said on Twitter that Dick had “served her nation with great devotion and distinction throughout her long career.”
Patel is the person in charge of deciding on Dick’s replacement. He also said that earlier in the month, there were issues in the culture of the force.
However, on Thursday, she claimed that Dick was performing her duties “with an unwavering dedication to safeguarding our capital city and its citizens – not just during the unprecedented duration that the disease has been ravaging.”
The decision of who will succeed her is politically influenced because it is the case that Met is investigating groups that were at the heart of Johnson’s government during the outbreak for infringements of the lockdown law.
Khan He is part of the party of opposition. Labour Party said he was unable to speak about the parties’ investigation since this was an operational issue.
However, he acknowledged the enormous public interest involved in the matter because Britain policed through consent.
