General Director Shinya Kumazaki said in an interview with the Washington Post that Kirby games in 3D might not be the norm for years to come. However, he says that Nintendo and HAL are on the same page about this, and “We want to go beyond what is currently possible and make new and innovative Kirby games.”

He also thought that the new Kirby game was one of those challenges that had come to fruition and that the developers would keep trying new things and not just make games in 3D.
Kirby and The Forgotten Land follow in Super Mario Odyssey’s footsteps when it comes to experimenting with 3D worlds outside of the original planets of the games.
Super Mario 64 was Mario’s first real foray into 3D games. This isn’t the case with Kirby, though. Most of his previous games have been a little more three-dimensional. But they still kept to the traditional 2D platforming standard the games were known for.
If Kirby and The Forgotten Land has a lot of promise. It could lead to a whole new kind of game for the franchise in the future. Which is why it’s so important.
It’s great to hear that HAL still wants to try new things with Kirby games as it has in the past. The games Kirby 64 and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse show how HAL has tried new art styles in the past. Like with Kirby’s Epic Yarn and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. It takes fans back to Kirby 64 with the more freeform movement for Kirby that hasn’t been seen before in the Kirby games.
When making Kirby games, HAL Laboratory has always tried and failed. Kirby and the Forgotten Land is just another game for the franchise to see how it works. With Kirby’s 30th birthday coming up, who knows what HAL will come up with for the pink puffball.
