Madhya Pradesh extends weekend lockdown in few cities

The Madhya Pradesh government extended the weekend closure in several districts, including the Indore Mall, on Saturday in light of the increase in Covid cases. The decision to extend the lockdown was made at a meeting held by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan with district crisis management committees via video conference.

Speaking about the extension, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Rajora said that the closure will be in effect in Indore city, Rau, Mhow, Shajapur city and some districts like Ujjain, Barwani, Rajgarh and Vidisha until 6 a.m. on April 19.

The blockade will be in effect from April 12 to the morning of April 22 in Balaghat, Narsinghpur and Seoni districts, as well as Jabalpur, and orders under section 144 of CrPC will be issued soon by the respective collectors, he added.

Madhya Pradesh records nearly 5,000 cases on April 10

Madhya Pradesh reported 4,986 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, the state’s largest single-day increase, bringing the infection count in the state to 3,32,206, the death toll rising to 4,160 with 24 new deaths.

Up to 2,126 patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the recovery count in the state to 2,87,869. Overall, the number of active cases in the state rose to 32,707.
