Maharashtra couple dies hours after celebrating wife’s birthday

A couple died and three others were injured when the car they were traveling in was struck for a tempo in Chillar Phata in the Palghar district, police said Tuesday.

The accident happened Monday night, they said.

Those who died were identified as Gajanan Wade and Chayya Wade.

They had celebrated Chhaya’s birthday earlier that day at her daughter’s home in Borivli in Mumbai and were returning from there with the daughter’s in-laws, police said.

A tempo crashed into the car, causing it to race against another tempo, an official said.

While Chhaya Wade died on the spot, her husband died in a hospital in Bhayander.
