Mamata Banerjee requests that PM Modi provide MGNREGA funds "immediately"

On Thursday, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that the Central Government is not providing funding to Bengal for the MGNREGA and PM Awas Yojana.
The Chief Minister urges that Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervene immediately and instruct the appropriate Ministry to deliver the cash “without further delay.”

Ms. Banerjee added in her letter, “The Indian government’s refusal to provide funding to West Bengal for MGNREGA and PM Awas Yojana was astounding. You know that MGNREGA is a significant source of income for rural people.”

“Wage payment in West Bengal has been delayed for more than four months since the Government of India has refused to provide money to the State for roughly Rs 6500 crore-Rs 3000 crores for wage obligations and Rs 3500 crore for non-wage liabilities,” the Bengal CM stated.

Banerjee wrote on the Awas Yojna, saying, “West Bengal is the most populous state in the country, with more than 32 lakh dwellings built-in 2016-17. Despite this, a new allotment of funding to West Bengal is in the works.”

Mamata Banerjee has already written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about COVID vaccinations and oxygen deficit during COVID, NEET, and PG examinations.
