Mamata Banerjee takes oath as West Bengal CM

Trinamool Head of Congress (TMC) Mamata Banerjee was sworn in as West Bengal’s chief minister for the third consecutive term after winning the West Bengal Assembly elections on May 2. Banerjee was sworn in in the Bengali language.

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar administered the oath of office and secrecy to him in a low-key ceremony at Raj Bhawan held amid the raging COVID pandemic.

In addition to top TMC leaders like Partha Chatterjee and Subrata Mukherjee, there was also polling strategist Prashant Kishor, who played a key role in TMC’s victory, and Banerjee MP’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee.

Urge Mamata to take action to restore law and order: Governor

Banerjee has said that his first priority after resuming office will be to address the COVID-19 situation.

The TMC came to power for the third time in a row in West Bengal, pocketing 213 of the 292 assembly seats that went to the polls, while its main rival, the BJP, got 77 seats.
