Maoist leader Budheshwar Oraon killed in gunfire with security forces in Jharkhand.

A joint team of Jharkhand police and CRPF’s CoBRA 209 Battalion shot dead a notorious CPI (Maoist) regional committee member Budheshwar Oraon, carrying a bounty of 15 lakh rupees, in a meeting early Thursday morning. in the Kurumgarh forest of Gumla District in Jharkhand.

Oraon was named in 103 cases of murder, attempted murder, riots, extortion, robbery, among others registered in four districts of Jharkhand: Gumla (81), Simdega (16), Lohardaga (4), and Garhwa (2).

Oraon died two days after a dog handler, Vishwajeet Kumbhakar, from Cobra Battalion 203, was injured during a combing operation in the same forest in the explosion of an improvised explosive device. The dog, Dron, was killed in the same incident. Police said that the next day, a villager, Ramdev Munda, was injured in the explosion of the improvised explosive device while guiding security forces into a dense forest and later died during treatment.

Jharkhand Police IG (Operations) Amol Venukant Homkar said: “We had received input from the CPI (Maoist) presence in the forests and they were planning something big. The rebels started shooting after seeing the security forces and we retaliated in which a Maoist was killed. After confirming it from various sources, he was identified as Budheshwar Oraon, a resident of Khatanga Pakartoli in Gumla ”.

Police said they recovered an AK-47 rifle, live ammunition, two magazines, IED detonators, Naxal literature, and medicines, among other things. “This is a great achievement for the police and CRPF. Oraon had spread terror throughout the area and due to the explosions with improvised explosive devices carried out by him and his men, 14 villagers were injured and five died in recent years, ”he said.
