Partha Chatterjee, a former minister and ousted leader of the Trinamool Congress, was arrested in connection with an alleged teacher recruitment fraud. Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy said that Chatterjee “embarrassed and dishonoured” the party.

Notably, the TMC severed ties with Partha when cash totalling 21 crore rupees was found at the home of his close friend Arpita Mukherjee.

The TMC MP said that the party was unaware of such an incident.

Partha Chatterjee, a former minister, claimed he was being set up in a plot after being stripped of his positions in the TMC and his portfolios by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday.
This comes just days after the Enforcement Directorate detained him in connection with an alleged teacher recruitment scam in which the organization allegedly recovered money worth 50 crores.

Trinamool Congress, which had been putting distance between itself and its detained leader Partha Chatterjee, removed him from his position as a minister and suspended him from the organization on Thursday, leaving him free to participate in the Enforcement Directorate investigation into the teacher recruitment scam, which has seen millions of rupees seized from properties connected to his aide Arpita Mukherjee.
