Mayank Agarwal To Join India Squad After Rohit Sharma Tests COVID-19 Positive

Mayank Agarwal To Join India Squad After Rohit Sharma Tests COVID-19 Positive: As a replacement for captain Rohit Sharma, who is questionable for the Edgbaston Test against England after testing positive for COVID-19, opener Mayank Agarwal has been called up to join the Indian team in the UK.

Before being put in isolation, Rohit participated in the first day’s drawn exhibition match versus Leicestershire. A Rapid Antigen Test revealed that he was positive (RAT).

The 31-year-old Agarwal had been left out of the 15-man team for the match, which will begin on July 1, but now he has a chance since KL Rahul was hurt soon before the South Africa series Rohit had an infection.

According to a BCCI source who spoke to PTI, “Mayank is traveling today as a cover for Rohit and would be ready for the Test match if need be since UK Covid guidelines don’t require any quarantine time on arriving if RT PCR test is negative.”

Due to an epidemic of COVID-19 in the Indian camp, the fifth Test against England from a previous season’s completed series was carried over to this one.

India is up 2-1 in the series.

In his 21 Test appearances, Agarwal has scored 1488 runs at an average of 41.33. He last participated in a five-day match in March at home against Sri Lanka.

He only managed 59 runs (33, 4, 22) in the two-Test series across three innings.

He also performed miserably with 196 runs scored in 13 games while captaining Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. In the League of 10 teams, his club placed sixth.
