Mehul Choksi gets bail from Dominica High Court on medical grounds.

Fugitive diamond businessman Mehul Choksi was released on medical bail from the Dominican High Court on Monday. The court was scheduled to hear Choksi’s bail statement on July 23, however, it was filed following a request from the Indian diamantaire.

Choksi, in his guilty plea, had asked the court to grant him bail on the pretext of receiving medical treatment for his neurological problems in Antigua.

The court has set certain conditions for Choksi to be released on bail. These are:

-Choksi must return to Antigua to receive specialized medical care that is not available in Dominica as recommended by the State.

– Antigua’s neurologist, Dr. Hayden Osborne, must report any changes in Choksi’s health.

– Mehul Choksi must pay $ 10,000 US dollars to the courts to secure his appearance before the court of the first instance of Dominica.

– The applicant must notify the higher court and must disclose his address in Antigua and Barbuda and must not change that address and if a change must be made, he must notify and update the address provided above.

Choksi, who disappeared from Antigua and Barbuda where he had lived since 2018 after his escape from India, was arrested on May 23 in neighboring Dominica for illegal entry. He was declared a prohibited immigrant by the Dominican Ministry of Immigration.

Choksi, 62, is wanted in India in connection with a 13.5 billion rupee scam at the National Bank of Punjab.
