Militants who attacked BJP leader in Srinagar shot dead
Jammu and Kashmir police shot dead three militants involved in the attack on the residence of a senior BJP leader in Srinagar on Friday, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said. A police officer was killed in the attack on Thursday morning, and the militants had escaped with their rifles.
The attack took place at the residence of BJP leader Mohammad Anwar Khan, in Aaribagh Nowgam, on the outskirts of Srinagar. Khan was not at the home at the time of the incident. Police said the militants were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba and that two of them were local.
“Three militants involved in the attack on the residence of the BJP leader in JK’s Nowgam were killed in the Pulwama meeting,” Kumar was quoted as saying by the news agency. PTI.
An official told PTI that security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Dobhi Mohalla in the Kakapora area this morning when militants fired at them, leading to the encounter. Personnel had recovered weapons and ammunition, among other things, from the meeting place, the official added.
Two civilians were also injured in the encounter and are being treated at a nearby hospital where they are in stable condition. They were identified as Ishrat Jan (25) and Ghulam Nabi Dar (42).
On Thursday, Officer Rameez Raja had “suffered serious gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and achieved martyrdom,” police said.
The attack was the second in Srinagar and the third in the Valley in the last week.
