Minecraft 1.18 launches in “a month or two” and will keep your old worlds safe.
The Minecraft 1.18 release date is almost upon us, although the Mojang developers still have a bit of leeway for the precise date. Still, they are cutting back on the release of Caves and Cliffs for the next “month or two,” because the update is “almost done,” according to a presentation on Minecraft Live.
The plan is to release the update simultaneously in the Bedrock and Java editions (which, incidentally, will be coming to Xbox Game Pass for PC).
The two versions will now also have seed parity, which means that you will be able to see your favorite Minecraft seeds represented almost identically in both versions of the game, aside from a few minor details.
You also don’t have to worry about your old worlds, even with all the changes that the new generation of the world will bring.
Your 1.17 worlds will go to 1.18 without a problem. The combination of terrains will ensure that old and new content change naturally, and you will also find that the deepest cave systems are automatically generated underneath all previously explored areas.
You can watch the presentation for yourself below, starting at the 51:53 mark.
Part of the reason this update is rolling out on time is that, once again, a part has been delayed. Next year’s update, The Wild, will include features like Deep Dark and Minecraft Warden.
