Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar revealed on Saturday that Mahendra Singh Dhoni had told him that he would be considered fit for international cricket as long as he is “beating the fastest sprinter on the team.”

Manjrekar, a well-known commentator, said he had a conversation with the former two-time World Cup-winning captain about his future in international cricket during the wedding of India captain Virat Kohli in 2017.

“During Virat Kohli’s wedding, I hung out on the corner with him and he said, ‘I’m always beating the fastest sprinter on the team, I’m going to consider myself fit enough to play international cricket or top-level cricket. ‘. ‘” Manjrekar said.

“People like Tendulkar, Dhoni, they are cricket champions. Once they’re on the public stage, you will never see Dhoni on a public stage, like a cricket field, looking a little handicapped or unable to run or run… ”he said on the Star Sports Cricket Connected program.

Dhoni’s last outing in competitive cricket was the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.

Manjrekar also calculated that Dhoni would come in handy in the IPL, saying that the presence of “only four-five” good bowlers in the league is not enough to upset the veteran fighter.

Dhoni, who has already started practicing at Ranchi, will be the captain of the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from 19 September.

“It’s going to be very good and one of the reasons he’s so successful and consistent in IPL as a hitter rather than an international is that he knows there are four to five players to handle,” Manjrekar said.

“There are some good and some not so good at IPL. At international, you have five quality bowlers, so it’s very good to pick those guys and chase them, “added Manjrekar.

“So as a hitter, with MS Dhoni on the IPL, I don’t see much of a difference.”

Dhoni, who has led the Chennai Super Kings to three IPL titles, has played 190 games in the cash-rich T20 league, scoring 4,432 runs.

Manjrekar, who has played 37 Tests and 74 ODI, said it will be about the mind and not just the power coup for the Jharkhand dasher in the IPL.

“In fact, the conditions that we have, I keep saying, are perfect for Dhoni, where it will be about the mind and not just the coup of power,” he concluded.
