Following the incident in which an improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered at
Ghazipur Flower Market ahead of Republic Day and later diffused by police in Delhi, Police
have fortified areas around Rajpath with a security layer as well as installed facial
recognition technology (FRS) and more than 300 CCTV cameras.
Deepak Yadav, DCP, New Delhi, said that the threat of terror and the increase in cases of
COVID-19 also pose an issue for the police.
He has informed the police personnel of the required security measures that must be
observed and has strengthened the security procedures for New Delhi.
“We will intensify the verifying guests and tenants staying at hotels located in and
surrounding in the New Delhi area. A rapid response unit (QRT) is positioned to handle any
dire circumstance.
We also have an anti-drone group to be on the lookout for any flying object that is
threatening the security cordon.” he added.
He also said that 300 cameras equipped with FRS were installed in and around Rajpath.
The system has an information database that includes 50,000 suspect criminals. “Due to
COVID-19-related restrictions, only 4000 tickets will be made available, and the total
number of attendees will be able to go to this event,” officials said.
