Russia prohibited entry to any foreigners who traveled from countries of southern Africa and required all Russian nationals who returned to South Africa or neighboring countries on Thursday to be quarantined for 14 days to comply with the new rules.

Russia is confirmed to have the two first Omicron coronavirus variants found in Russia in travelers who have returned after a trip to South Africa, health officials declared on Monday.

Russia has imposed a ban on entry for any foreigners who travel from countries within southern Africa and demanded that all Russian nationals who returned to South Africa or neighboring countries on Thursday be quarantined for 14 days due to the new version.

Namibia has identified Omicron as an Omicron variant in 19 out of 18 samples sequenced between November 11 and 26, the health ministry of Namibia said on Monday.

While Southern African country has only sequenced a few samples, this finding indicates that the variant was first identified by neighboring South Africa and Botswana late this month. As a result, the World Health Organization declared “of concern” and is extremely common in Namibia.

Additionally, Pakistan on Monday banned travel from 15 countries comprising The Netherlands and South Africa subject to specific conditions.

Then, the restrictions on travel have been tightened for 13 other countries because of the threat of the latest version.

Croatia has confirmed Monday that it had its second and first cases of Omicron, the health department of the state institute announced.

“We aren’t sure of the cause of the disease since neither of these two people had traveled abroad. However, we suspect that they contracted the disease at a meeting in a business where both of them were involved,” said Bernard Kaic, an epidemiologist from the health institute of the state.

Japan has confirmed Monday that it is suffering from its third instance of the new omicron-type as Prime Minister Fumio Kishida pledged to implement strict measures in the event of the worst-case scenario for the possibility of a resurgence in infections.

Secretary of the cabinet Hirokazu Matsuno told reporters that the third confirmed case involved an older man who was positive on the arrival of Italy to Japan’s Haneda airport on the 1st of December and was later removed from the system.

However, the initial reports are taken from South Africa, the epicenter of the outbreak of the Omicron variant, do not show an increase in hospitalizations. “Thus far, it doesn’t look like there’s a great degree of severity to it,” Anthony Fauci, US Biden’s chief medical advisor, told reporters on Sunday while advising that it’s still too early to be specific.

While this was happening, Italy tightened curbs on Monday for those who aren’t vaccination-free against Covid-19. This has limited their access to a variety of facilities and services.

The new rules state that only those who have been vaccinated or who have recently recovered from Covid-19 can enjoy inside seating in restaurants and bars, visit museums, clubs, and cinemas, as well as attending sporting events.
