Netherland’s boss Van Gaal has prostate cancer.
On Sunday, Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal revealed that he has prostate cancer.
The 70-year-old former Manchester United and Barcelona manager confirmed his diagnosis on Dutch television show Humberto but stated that he intends to continue.
“During each phase of my stint as national team manager, I had to leave in the middle of the night to go to the hospital without the players knowing until now.”
At the same time, I was under the impression that I was in good health. “However, I am not,” he stated.
“Prostate cancer does not kill you, at least not in ninety percent of cases.” Other underlying disorders are usually the ones that kill you.
However, I had a particularly aggressive kind and was treated 25 times. So then you’ll have to manage a lot of things to get through life.
“In the hospital, I did receive preferential treatment. When I went to an appointment, I was let in through the back door and immediately ushered into another room. I’ve been handled exceptionally well.”
Van Gaal has led the Netherlands to the World Cup in Qatar for the third time. They will meet the hosts, Senegal and Ecuador, in the group stages later this year.
His management experience spans over four decades. Van Gaal has led Barcelona, Ajax Amsterdam, Bayern Munich, and AZ Alkmaar to league titles.
He was at Manchester United for two seasons, winning the FA Cup with the club in 2016, before being fired a few days later.
