Days after his release from jail in a case against him for allegedly insulting Hindu deities, comedian Munawar Faruqui has said that he never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings through his jokes.
Claiming that the “internet fighting herd mentality” as well as “someone’s politics” can ruin a person’s life, Faruqui said he had to suffer for something he hadn’t done.
Faruqui, 32, who was arrested on January 1 in connection with the case and had been in Indore Central Jail since January 2, was released from prison late at night on February 6, a day after the Supreme Court granted him a provisional bond.
In a YouTube video of more than 10 minutes posted late Saturday night, the outlet said: “How can I hurt someone’s feelings? How can I cause heart pain? I apologize four times even if I meet someone by mistake. “
“It can never be my intention to hurt someone’s feelings through my jokes,” he said.
He said that the discussions on the Internet about useless topics, the abuse and the hatred that spread there should stop.
“Why have we forgotten that the Internet is for entertainment and information?” I ask.
“Will we continue to fight only on the Internet? Anyone can be a victim of this herd mentality, politics. I did not fall prey to that. But he was bruised from something he hadn’t done, ”he said.
Politics and someone’s herd mentality can ruin a person’s life, he added.
