On Friday, 21 of the 25 MLAs from the Naga People’s Front (NPF) joined the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP). This is a big political move ahead of next year’s Assembly elections in Nagaland, where the NPF has been in power since 2009. (NDPP).
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his party now have 42 members in the 60-member Assembly. The 21 NPF legislators who joined them now make up half of them. The NPF has four MLAs, the BJP has 12, and two Independents are still in the government.

The party’s leader, Shurhozelie Liezietsu, said that the party would run for the Assembly in early next year on its own.
That’s what Assembly Speaker Sharingain Lokngkumer said in an order. He said that 21 members of the NPF Legislature Party want to merge with the NDPP.
In August last year, the NPF joined the People’s Democratic Alliance, which included the NDPP and the BJP, to form the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), an opposition-free government in the state. The goal was to move the Naga political issue forward.
Neiba Kronu, a government spokesperson, said that the UDA will still work even though there was a new development.
People who run for office are in charge of making sure that the legislators move to another party. He added that the four NPF legislators who remain in the UDA are still in that party.
