New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will miss 2nd Test against England.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will rest for Test 2 against England with a left elbow injury, and Tom Latham will lead the team in his absence, the team’s head coach said on Wednesday.
Gary Stead said Williamson has been managing the injury since March and they wanted to give the 30-year-old a chance to recover before the World Test Championship final against India later this month.
“It’s not an easy decision for Kane to lose a test, but we think it’s the right one,” Stead said.
“They gave him an injection in his elbow to relieve the irritation he’s been experiencing when hitting and a period of rest and rehabilitation will help maximize his recovery.
“The decision has largely been made with the ICC World Trials Championship final in Southampton in mind and we are confident that he will be ready for that match from June 18.”
Batter Will Young will take Williamson’s place in the batting lineup.
New Zealand will play England in the second round of the two-game series at Edgbaston on Thursday. The first test was done at Lord’s.
