Nintendo hacker sentenced to 40 months in prison: In September of 2020, Gary Bowser – the group’s public face specializing in video game piracy. Team Xecuter arrested in the United States and exiled to the Dominican Republic for helping to create and market devices in hacking consoles used for video games.

The Canadian national from Santo Domingo has since detain by the federal government on the federal crimes of Conspiracy to Override technological measures, Traffic within Circumvention devices, and trafficking within Circumvention devices.
In the end, the United States government wanted to imprison Bowser on trial indefinitely for these crimes.
Bowser, who is not in a relationship with Nintendo President Doug Bowser, pleaded guilty in October 2021.
He was sentenced today to 40 months of prison. The judge in charge of the sentencing hearing stated that Bowser’s crime was grave and caused “real victims” and caused harm for the entire community.” In his plea bargain, Bowser has also agreed to pay $4.5 million in Restitution to Nintendo.
The Department of Justice characterized Bowser as a “prominent director” and the “public voice and the principal selling agent” of the hacker organization, Team Xecuter.
Bowser was the administrator of Team Xecuter’s website and promoted the products of the group, announced any new information, and answered questions from customers about the products. He also worked on developing and maintaining the online library of pirated games for its customers.
Cybercriminals have created and distributed illegal devices that hack videogame consoles.

Such as those of the Nintendo Entertainment System Classic Edition and Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch, the Sony PlayStation Classic, and Microsoft Xbox.
Bowser admitted to being paid $1,000 per month to distribute and market the hacking devices in court documents from the past. The U.S. Attorney appointed to the case, Nick Brown, claimed the team Xecuter’s plan has resulted in around $65 million of losses.
The consequences on hackers and other criminal cybercriminals throughout the years on legitimate businesses and their intellectual property are staggering.
Prosecutors cited the victim impact statement that include in the sentencing document: “When video games illegally copy. And when circumvention devices are made easily available and readily available, the video game industry. As well as the wider economy suffers negative ripple effects.
This can lead, at a minimum, to less incentive to develop more and a less lively scene for games.”
Court documents show that Bowser is just one of more than a dozen people. Who are part of Team Xecuter located around the world.
It make up of people who can exploit weaknesses in video game consoles and then conceive devices to circumvent them. Others are web designers who create websites to advertise products. Manufacturers who make the devices, and resellers who sell the gadgets.
Two additional individuals from Team Xecuter a French national identified. As Max Louarn and Yuanning Chen Yuanning Chen, a Chinese national, have also indicted with the indictment. However, neither currently detain.
This case currently investigated through Homeland Security Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
