Nobody should feel pain while chanting Jai Shri Ram: Sanjay Raut

Days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refused to speak at an event where the slogans “Jai Shri Ram” were raised, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said no one should feel pain while singing the motto.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, Raut said he is sure that Mamata Banerjee has faith in Lord Ram as well.

Banerjee declined to speak on an official program on Saturday to celebrate the 125th birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Kolkata after the audience raised the slogan “Jai Shri Ram” in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said such an “insult” was unacceptable.

When asked about the BJP accusing Banerjee of feeling pain while chanting the slogan, Raut said: “No one should feel pain for saying ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in the country.”

“Nobody’s secularism will be threatened by saying Jai Shri Ram. We believe Lord Ram is the country’s pride and support, ”he said.

“Jai Shri Ram is not a political word. It is a matter of our faith, and I am sure that Mamata Didi also has faith in Lord Ram, ”said Rajya Sabha member.

An editorial in Sena’s spokesperson “Saamana” also said that Banerjee shouldn’t have been upset when some people raised the slogans “Jai Shri Ram” during the show.

“Rather, things would have turned for them (those who raised slogans) if she had mixed her voice with theirs. But they are all serving their own vote banks, ”he said.

The BJP has identified Banerjee’s “weak point” and will continue to address such sensitive issues until the Assembly elections (in West Bengal) are over, he said.

The editorial also launched a veiled attack on the BJP, accusing it of poaching TMC leaders in West Bengal to defeat the party led by Mamata Banerjee in the upcoming elections in that state.

He said the leaders of West Bengal, Punjab, and Maharashtra were at the forefront of the country’s freedom struggle.

All three states are also fighting for their own pride today and the Center is against them, he said.

Punjab farmers, who are campaigning against the Center’s new farm laws near the Delhi border, are being trampled on, he said.

Maharashtra is being targeted in a “predetermined” manner, the Marathi daily alleged, apparently referring to notices from central agencies to some of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders.

The BJP seized the leaders of Congress and the PNC prior to the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections and gave them a nomination, claiming and saying that most of those candidates had been elected.

“What happened in Maharashtra (now) is happening in West Bengal. (BJP) has nothing of his own. Create your legion of poaching with whom you will fight. It happened in Bihar. Now, the fight is on to defeat TMC by poaching TMC (leaders), ”accused Shiv Sena.

In particular, West Bengal Minister of Forests Rajib Banerjee resigned from Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet recently and joined the growing list of dissidents who have put the ruling camp in a difficult situation ahead of the Assembly elections.

The editorial said that the BJP winning 18 seats in Lok Sabha in West Bengal is a cause for concern for Mamata Banerjee.

“But this Bengal tigress (Mamata Banerjee) is the one who fights in the streets and will continue to fight,” he added.
