Now Ukraine soldiers completely lose Sievierodonetsk to the Russian.

After Sievierodonetsk fell, a severe blow for Kyiv as it tried to maintain control of the country’s east, special forces from Ukraine stayed there, directing artillery fire on Russian-backed soldiers, according to an advisor to the president.

Just hours after Moscow’s forces seized the city, Ukrainian shelling on Saturday compelled Russian soldiers to halt the evacuation of civilians from a chemical factory in Sievierodonetsk.

Local police were reported as saying by the Tass news agency. The loss of Sievierodonetsk, which came after several weeks of some of the deadliest combat of the conflict, is Ukraine’s gravest setback since losing control of the southern port of Mariupol in May.

To fight from higher ground in Lysychansk on the opposing side of the Siverskyi Donets river, Ukraine labeled its retreat from the city a “tactical pullback.” According to pro-Russian rebels, Moscow’s soldiers are now advancing on Lysychansk.

After weeks in which Moscow’s enormous superiority in weaponry had only produced sluggish advances, Sievierodonetsk’s fall—once home to more than 100,000 people but now a wasteland—transforms the eastern battlefield.

Now, Russia will try to advance and gain additional territory on the other side.

At the same time, Ukraine will pray that the price Moscow paid for taking the little city’s ruins would make Russia’s soldiers susceptible to a counterattack.

In a video message, President Volodymyr Zelensky promised Ukraine would retake the cities it had lost, including Sievierodonetsk.

We don’t know how long it will continue, how many more blows, casualties, or efforts will be required until we feel triumph is on the horizon, he said, admitting the emotional toll of the conflict.

Chief of military intelligence for Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, told Reuters that by removing its units from Sievierodonetsk, Ukraine was performing “a tactical regrouping.”

He said that Russia was using the same strategy it had in Mariupol: eradicating the city off the face of the planet. “The situation makes it impossible to maintain the defense in the abandoned buildings and open fields.

Therefore, the Ukrainian soldiers are moving to a higher location to continue their defense operations.”

According to the Russian defense ministry, Russian soldiers have taken complete control of Sievierodonetsk and the neighboring town of Borivske “as a consequence of effective offensive operations.”

Some Ukrainian special troops were still in Sievierodonetsk, according to Oleksiy Arestovych, a senior aide to Zelenskiy. They were directing artillery fire against the Russians.

However, he did not mention any frontal opposition their troops put up.

According to a pro-Russian separatist fighter’s spokesperson quoted by Russia’s Interfax news agency, Russian and pro-Russian troops have crossed the river into Lysychansk. They are engaged in combat throughout the city.
