Now you can listen Spotify songs within the Facebook app

Spotify and Facebook have announced an integration that will allow users to access a new mini player from within the social media app. This feature has been announced for Spotify Premium subscribers only. Users will also be able to control their music without switching applications. The feature will be available on iOS and Android devices in the US and 26 other markets. The availability of the feature for Indian users has yet to be announced.

The new integration comes as Spotify announces price increases for the premium account in various regions of the world. Also, read Zoom features a whole new look to your video calls.

This is how you can start the mini-player:

1. Tap the “Play” button on the song that someone from Spotify shares with you on their Facebook feed.

2. For first-time mini-player users, a dialog box opens requesting the user’s consent to proceed with the option. Then click “Connect” to continue.

3. For users who already use Spotify and have logged into their accounts, the applications will switch automatically and playback will start from the Spotify application.

4. Playlists will continue to play as you scroll down the news section. However, you will have to manually pause or close the mini player.

For free users, the ads will come directly from Spotify. However, Facebook will only be able to access limited data about users who adopt the integration, including subscription type and metrics to evaluate the performance of the mini player.

Spotify has ensured that it will not use its user information base to target ads and will ask its listeners for permission to share data when they first launch the player. Facebook has called its partnership with Spotify the “natural next step.”

The companies had made a deal in 2019 to allow Facebook to post short Spotify music clips to their Stories. This recent announcement comes a week after Facebook revealed that it planned to add podcasts and live audio rooms to its feature set to compete with Clubhouse, which is currently the fast-growing audio-based app.
