NYPD struck by vehicle during RFK Bridge shooting with officer-involved: Officials.
NEW YORK (AP) – A New York State trooper was struck by a vehicle during a shooting at the RFK Bridge on the RFK Bridge Sunday afternoon, authorities said.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to a New York State Police spokesman. The shooting happened around 1 p.m.
All lanes of the bridge bound for the Bronx were temporarily closed, according to the city’s Emergency Management Department. Several people on Twitter reported being caught in the stopped traffic.
The New York State Police spokesman said only one lane remained closed due to the investigation, as of 2 p.m. tweet from the NYPD declared that all northbound lanes were closed.
Motorists were warned to avoid the bridge and use an alternate route.
The incident occurred on one of the busiest travel days of the year, with many trying to get home on the last day of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
