Observation: Lancashire received 5 penalties after the batter was hit by a "dangerous" shot.

In a single incident, Lancashire received five penalty runs after Leicestershire bowler Dieter Klein hit the batter with a pitch in a County Championship game in England on Sunday.

The referees on the field awarded the races following Law 42, which was introduced in 2017 to deal with the misconduct of the players. The specific clause broken was 42.3.1, which refers to “throwing the ball at a player … in an inappropriate or dangerous manner.” This is considered a Level 2 offense, resulting in a five-run penalty.

The first round of games at the County Championship began on Saturday. Lancashire, after winning the draw and choosing to bat, ended on Day 1 on 265/6, but the drama played out on the morning of Day 2.

Lancashire’s Danny Lamb threw a complete ball directly to bowler Dieter Klein, who picked up the ball and threw it at the batter. Upon impact, Lamb dropped his bat and leaped onto the square leg.

The field team and referees were seen walking towards Lamb to see how he was doing. The umpires met after this and decided to slap the bowling team, Leicestershire, with a five-run penalty, due to Klein’s action.
