Personal Data Of 1.3 Million Clubhouse Users Leaked Online
The personal data of some 1.3 million users of the Clubhouse social audio app has been leaked online, Cyber News reported.
The Verge cited a Cyber News report saying that a SQL database with user IDs, names, usernames, Twitter and Instagram identifiers, and follower counts were posted to an online hacker forum. Confidential user information, such as credit card numbers, did not appear to be among the leaked information. But the information could be used in phishing attempts to get users to hand over that more sensitive information.
Last week, Cyber News reported another social platform data breach – it found that the personal data of 500 million LinkedIn users had been scraped and posted online. The Microsoft-owned company said the leak did not include account data for private LinkedIn members.
As The Verge reported, that news came just a couple of days after it was discovered that the personal data of some 533 million Facebook users were also leaked online for free. The Facebook leak reportedly included the phone numbers, dates of birth, locations, email addresses, and full names of the users.
The Clubhouse social audio app had a monstrous first year, despite being invite-only and available only on iOS devices, with over 10 million downloads.
Twitter, LinkedIn, Discord, Spotify, and Slack have launched or are working to compete for social audio platforms, and Facebook is reported to have one in the works as well.
