Philippine deaths from Typhoon Rai increases to 208: More than 50 missing.
Typhoon Rai: In the Philippines, following Typhoon Rai, the strongest storm to strike our country in the past year pounded into the southern and central provinces has reached 208, the police national spokesperson told reporters on Monday.
The number of deaths was much higher than the number of deaths reported by the nation’s disaster agency until now.
More than 188,000 persons are still displaced, with power shortages were reported in more than 3000 different regions across the Philippines.
According to the country’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), over 332,000 people needed to be evacuated following Rai struck the Philippines on the 16th of December.
NDRRMC is reporting 31 deaths. However, only four were confirmed as being typhoon-related.
