PM Asked IITs to Develop Disaster-Resilient Infrastructure
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asked IITs to help develop an infrastructure that can withstand the effects of natural disasters.
Addressing the 66th convocation of IIT-Kharagpur via video conferencing, the prime minister said that the country had presented to the world its concept of the International Solar Alliance for safe, affordable and environmentally friendly energy.
“Climate change is a great challenge facing the world. India drew the world’s attention to the issue of disaster management. You can see what happened recently in Uttarakhand. We must focus on improving disaster-resistant infrastructure that can withstand natural disasters, ”he said. The Prime Minister praised the IITs’ efforts in developing technology to combat Covid-19 and urged them to find futuristic solutions to other health problems.
He also opined that IITs should transform from being just Indian institutes of technology into institutes of indigenous technologies.
“India in the 21st century has changed. Now, IIT is not just the Indian Institute of Technology, but the Indigenous Institute of Technology. You have to work on Self 3: self-awareness, self-confidence and selflessness. You must recognize your potential and move forward, move forward with complete confidence, move forward with selflessness, ”he told the students during his virtual speech.
“As an engineer, you have the ability to move things from patterns to patents. In this way, you have the vision to see your subjects in a more detailed way. There is no room for rush in the field of science and technology and innovation. A technological failure always leads to new innovations. Be patient in everything you do and what you want to achieve. There is no room for quick success on your way, ”said the Prime Minister.
The prime minister also said that there is a large market for personal health equipment as people have started to monitor their blood pressure, sugar and oxygen levels at home, he said. “We also need to come up with technologies that can offer affordable and accurate solutions,” he said.
