Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not comprehend what the people of India want because he can only hear his “friends’ voices.”
He made the remarks a day after the government lifted the maximum age restriction for recruitment under the ‘Agnipath’ plan from 21 to 23 years, sparking protests by young people throughout the nation.
Mr Gandhi also mentioned programmes like GST, note ban, agricultural legislation, and now Agnipath, claiming that they were intended to benefit the people but were rejected.
“Agnipath is a kid who has been rejected. Farmers are opposed to agricultural legislation. Economists have opposed the Note ban. The GST is rejecting traders.

“The Prime Minister does not comprehend what the people of the nation desire since he can only hear his ‘friends’,” Mr Gandhi added in a Hindi tweet.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress politician, also asked the prime minister to scrap the initiative, saying that the young are protesting it.
She said that the BJP administration has just 24 hours to amend the new army recruiting process regulations.
“This indicates that the strategy was rushed onto the child,” she said.
“Please remove the program immediately, Narendra Modi Ji,” she asked in a Hindi tweet, urging him to recruit personnel for the air force, which has been held back.
“Keep army recruitment at the same level as previously by lowering the age restriction,” she stated.
Congress has requested that the Agnipath program for short-service recruiting in the armed services be put on hold and more extensive talks with experts before any further action is taken.
