In the last eight years, India’s maritime sector has grown to new heights and helped boost trade and business, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today at the National Maritime Day event.

This day, April 5, is called National Maritime Day, and it honors the role of maritime trade in the growth of India’s economy and how important India is in the world’s trade.

We remember “our glorious maritime history” and “the important role that the maritime sector plays in India’s economic growth” today, Prime Minister Modi said in tweets.

“In the last eight years, our maritime sector has reached new heights and helped to boost trade and business,” he said.

As India’s Prime Minister said, the government has put a lot of attention on developing ports in the last eight years. This includes increasing port capacity and making existing systems even more efficient.

He said that waterways are being used to help Indian products get into new markets.

“At the same time, we’re putting the maritime sector to work for economic growth and building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. We’re also taking care to protect the marine eco-system and diversity that make India proud.” PM Modi said
