Police are closing the door to protesters who are blocking the capital of Canada. 

Some officers on horseback were pushed through crowds of protesters to remove them from the streets of central Ottawa on Friday. 

They detained more than 100 people and took away cars that were blocking the downtown area of Ottawa for three weeks to protest against the restrictions on pandemics.

Afraid of violence or increased tension, Ottawa police had sought to disperse protesters by threatening them with threats of arrest and fines. 

However, on Friday, hundreds of police officers stepped into the city despite freezing temperatures and snow that had just fallen and slowly clearing a portion of Ottawa.

There were tensions throughout the day when protesters were removed out of their vehicles, while those who opposed the police’s advances were thrown down and were tied with zip-ties to their bodies.

The protesters displayed “assaultive behavior,” forcing police on horses to come in “to create critical space” at the end of the afternoon, as per an official statement from the police. 

While this was happening, an individual threw a unicycle at a horse and was taken into custody for causing harm to the police service animal, according to police.

Authorities have said it could be days before eliminating the protesters and tractor-trailer vehicles who have occupied Ottawa streets since January. 28.

“We will run this operation 24 hours a day until the residents and community have their entire city back,” Steve Bell, Ottawa’s interim police chief, told reporters.

At least one armored vehicle was seen downtown. There are at least 8 police officers in helmets riding on horses. There were police officers carrying guns, and some took what appeared to be tear gas launchers.

There was no tear gas employed on Friday. However, according to CTV Canadian broadcaster, CTV protesters reported being pepper-sprayed and being trampled by police mounted during the daytime. Reuters could not independently confirm those claims.

The protest started as a group of truckers requesting the end of a COVID-19 mandate that applies to those who cross-border to enter Canada via Canada from the United States. 

However, the protest gradually transformed into a larger-scale demonstration against the government led by Prime Justin Trudeau. Justin Trudeau.

Ottawa police began their crackdown by installing 100 roadblocks in the protest zone, which was designed to cut off all further fuel supplies, food, or demonstrators to the area.

The police reported that they had detained around 100 persons and towed off 21 cars on Friday night. CTV stated that several truckers had been seen leaving the area of their own volition on Friday. However, several trucks were still in the area until late afternoon.

Along with the protesters being taken in custody by police, the officers also said they had detained three of the most prominent organizers on Thursday, two and one on Friday.

Concerning their leaders’ arrest, Freedom Convoy 2022, an umbrella group representing the protesters, stated: “We will continue to hold the line. We refuse to bow to abuses of power. The world is watching, Canada.”
