Police Drop Kidnapping Case against Agra man
While giving a clean note to 32-year-old Mehtab Rana and three of her relatives in the case of the alleged kidnapping of a minor from a different community after she denied participating in her statement in court, the police of Agra on Wednesday said they would press harassment charges against Rana.
Rana’s wife and two sisters-in-law were previously arrested on charges of keeping the abducted person in confinement.
They will remain in jail, however, as the police have registered them as co-defendants in the 2018 kidnapping case of the same girl.
According to the police, the 16-year-old girl told the court that she went to Delhi with two young men, Gwalior-based Divyanshu and her friend Rinku, on February 23 this year to frame Rana because he had allegedly been harassing her. and threatening to change his statement in the 2018 kidnapping case.
“Based on the statement of the girl in which she alleged harassment, a new case will be registered against Rana on charges of extortion and physical assault. We will also seek a court order against Rana’s wife and two sisters-in-law in the 2018 kidnapping case, ”said SP (Agra City) Botre Rohan Pramod.
Three years ago, Rana was arrested for kidnapping and raping the same girl. They then recovered the girl from Meerut and arrested Rana. He was later released in 2019.
Meanwhile, the police will move the court to seek custody of Divyanshu. Divyanshu was arrested by Madhya Pradesh police for three days in another cybercrime case.
