Porto’s Brazilian player Alegre derby was hit by a cell phone.
SAO PAULO: A Brazilian footballer from Gremio, based in Porto Alegre, was struck by a cell phone while celebrating a goal on Saturday, forcing him to leave the field for medical attention.
When the phone thrown from the terraces hit Lucas Silva in the face, he celebrated Gremio’s third goal in a 3-0 win over city rivals International.
Gremio’s Twitter report on the game said, “Substitution, Lucas Silva off, bleeding after being hit by a cell phone.”
The 29-year-old former Real Madrid and Marseille player was shown bleeding from the lips on video.
The assault occurred in the 79th minute of the Rio Grande do Sul state championship semi-final.
It was the second major confrontation between the two adversaries in less than a month.
In February, fans stormed the Gremio team bus to Internacional’s stadium, forcing the match to be called off seconds before kickoff.
On Wednesday, the two sides will play in the second leg of the semi-final at the Gremio arena.
