Punjab Chief Minister’s Cousin Joins BJP: Before the Assembly elections, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s cousin

brother Jaswinder Singh Dhaliwal joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of the

Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at Chandigarh on Tuesday.

In the past, many members from Punjab, such as former MP Arvind Khanna Shiromani

Akali (SAD) head Gurdeep Singh Gosha, as well as ex- Amritsar city councilor Dharamveer

Sarin were a part of the BJP on Tuesday in the presence of union ministers Hardeep Singh

Puri and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the party’s headquarters in the capital city.

It is expect that the term of the Punjab Assembly will end in March. The Assembly

elections for Punjab will be conduct in one phase on February 14, and the count of votes

to be completed on March 10.

In the 2017 Punjab Assembly polls, Congress was able to win an absolute majority of the

state with 77 seats.

They also overthrew the SAD-BJP administration after ten years. But, on the other hand,

Aam Aadmi Party emerged as the second-largest party, securing 20 seats out of the 117-

member Punjab Legislative Assembly.

In contrast, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) secured only 15 seats, while the BJP got three

seats.
