Chandigarh, February 17: Today will take place the scrutiny of 2,302 districts of eight municipal corporations and 109 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. Polls were conducted for 117 urban local agencies, including eight high-interest municipal corporations, with about 9,222 candidates in the fray on February 14.
Overall, there was a 71.39 percent turnout in civic body polls for which Congress, AAP, BJP and Akali Dal play off each other.
However, the result of the SAS Nagar municipal corporation is likely to be announced later.
A total of 9,222 candidates are in the fray for elections to 2,302 districts of eight municipal corporations from Abohar, Bathinda Batala, Kapurthala, Mohali, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot and Moga, 109 municipal councils and nagar panchayats.
Of the total number of candidates, 2,832 are independent, 2,037 from the ruling Congress and 1,569 are nominated by the SAD. The BJP, AAP and BSP presented 1,003, 1,606 and 160 candidates, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Punjab State Elections Commission ordered it to be repeated at three seats in the Patran and Samana Municipal Councils in Patiala.

The cabbage will take place on February 16 from 8 am to 4 pm, and the count will take place on February 17.
An official spokesperson for the State Elections Commission said reports were received from Patran’s Return Officer (RO) that criminals damaged the electronic voting machine (EVM) in voting booth number 11 in district number 8.
Reports were received from the RO of Samaná on the damage of EVM by criminals in voting booths number 22 and 23 of room number 11.
Taking serious note of these incidents, the commission announced that the voting conducted in these booths would be voided and re-conducted pursuant to section 59 (2) (A) of the Punjab State Election Commission Act 1994, the official said.
Opposition parties have accused the ruling Congress of “taking booths” and “indulging in violence.”
