Days after the Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Suresh Kumar, resigned after expressing his dissatisfaction with the legal department, the Punjab Additional Advocate General, Rameeza Hakim, who is the wife of AG Atul Nanda, resigned from office.
But the CM has not accepted his resignation.
Amarinder also rejected Kumar’s resignation and ordered Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan to order the legal department to work to expedite proceedings in the ongoing High Court case challenging Kumar’s appointment.
Rameeza Hakim, the sources said, sent his resignation to the Chief Secretary with a copy to Interior Minister Satish Chandra on Saturday. The home department was preparing to present it to the CM the next business day on Monday, but prior to this, the CM’s media adviser, Raveen Thukral, tweeted on Sunday that the CM had ordered that his resignation be rejected.
Hakim, in a note to his colleagues, had cited “current circumstances” and personal reasons for his decision.
The note read: “Being part of TAG (Team Advocate General) and working with all of you, under the stellar leadership of AG Punjab, for the last three years has been and always will be one of the most appreciated chapters of my professional life. It allowed me to participate in complex litigation, research new areas of jurisprudence and, of course, interact with all of you. However, given the current circumstances and for personal reasons, I cannot continue to serve the Government of Punjab. Therefore, I have presented my resigns as Additional Advocate General with the desire to return to private practice. ”
The note added: “As I may not be able to meet with all of you, through this message I wish to thank each and every one of you. It was a pleasure and a privilege to work with all of you. I wish you all the best in your future and seek your continued support and assistance to our AG. Of course, I am always available to each and every one of you for any assistance I may offer in my private capacity. Thanks again. Stay safe. Goodbye.”
After all day of speculation and conjecture about what might have compelled her to resign, Thukral tweeted: “Encourage everyone to stop speculating on the resignation of Addl AG Punjab Rameeza Hakeem. The facts are that @CsPunjab received his resignation last night and CM @capt_amarinder asked him to reject the same, as the government cannot help but advocate for such exceptional caliber and competence. ”
