Raducanu will be the main figure in Sydney’s Australian Open warm-up. 

Sydney – Ash Barty and Emma Raducanu will headline the show when the world’s top women’s tennis is back in Sydney to play for the first time in the past three years.

The world’s top player and Wimbledon Champion Barty were second in the previous two events of the Sydney International in 2018 and 2019.

Barty returns to the harbor city of Sydney for her participation in the Sydney Tennis Classic from Jan. 9 to 15, at the top of a highly competitive field that includes 19 of the globe’s most talented women.

It is expected that the Australian team will include top-ten players Garbine Muguruza Barbora Krejcikova Maria Sakkari, Anett Kontaveit, Paula Badosa, Iga Swiatek, and Ons Jabeur in vying for the WTA 500 title.

British teenage Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez, who was the Canadian she defeated in the final of her fairytale journey to winning the U.S. Open title earlier this year, will be playing at The Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

The former U.S. Open champion Dominic Thiem is expected to be the biggest draw at the ATP event, alongside Australian Alex de Minaur, the previous male Sydney International champion in 2019.

Barty will also compete in her home tournament, the Adelaide International, as she prepares for her home Grand Slam at Melbourne Park that begins in January. 17.
