Congressional Top Leader Rahul Gandhi met Wednesday with the family of the minor who was allegedly raped, murdered, and cremated without her parents’ consent in Delhi on Sunday. Rahul met family members inside his car.
“I spoke with the family … they want justice and nothing more. They are saying that justice is not being done to them and that they should be helped. We will. I said ‘I am with you. Rahul Gandhi is with them until they get justice'”, Rahul told the ANI news agency.
“The tears of the parents say only one thing: their daughter, the daughter of the country, deserves justice. And I am with them on this path of justice,” he tweeted separately.
Meanwhile, Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to meet with the victim’s family today.
On Tuesday, people from different walks of life, including a political leader, a former high-ranking police officer, and a professional fighter, joined the protest to push for the family’s demand for justice. The girl’s parents accompanied by hundreds of locals held a protest on Tuesday near the scene of the incident, demanding capital punishment for the accused.
The Delhi Women’s Commission launched an investigation into the incident and summoned city police after the girl’s parents alleged that she was raped and her body was forcibly cremated by a crematorium priest who falsely claimed she was electrocuted.
