Uttarkhand witnessed massive devastation on February 7 when a glacier erupted in the Tapovan-Raini area of Chamoli causing a flash flood in the Dhauliganga and Alaknanda river system.
Natural calamity wreaked havoc on the mountainous state. Dozens of houses were damaged, some completely demolished. Hundreds of people disappeared. More than 50 bodies have been recovered. Uttarakhand, which was devastated by floods and landslides in 2013, must begin the arduous task of rebuilding again and needs the support of each of us.
Continuing his long practice of providing aid to people affected by such natural calamities, Rajat Sharma, President and Editor-in-Chief of India TV, donated Rs 64 lakh on Thursday 18th February which is his birthday.
“Many people asked me how I am going to celebrate my birthday this year. It has been said in the Sastras” People live for themselves, but those who live for philanthropy is the true meaning of life. “The workers of Uttarakhand are the they need more support. My 64th birthday, I am making a humble contribution of Rs 64 lakh for them, “said Rajat Sharma in his tweet.
