Rangers fans want van Bronckhorst as Gerrard joins Villa.
Gerrard joins Villa: The Rangers are looking for a new coach after Steven Gerrard left Ibrox, and Gers fans are desperate for the club to win back Gio van Bronckhorst.
Van Bronckhorst, 46, has shone during his early foray into management, after a brilliant playing career. He won five titles, one at Rangers.
He played more than 100 times for the Rangers, scoring 22 goals and winning five trophies. Two of them were Scottish Premiership titles.
Van Bronckhorst also won a Premier League with Arsenal and two La Liga titles with Barcelona. As a coach, he won the Eredvisie with Feyenoord.
He has the track and the track record and, like Gerrard, he is still a young coach with an incredible aura about him. The Sun says he’s interested.
What are Rangers fans saying about van Bronckhorst?
Clearly, he’s also the choice of Rangers fans. The Dutch player is known for his offensive football style, managing Feyenoord 176 times.
Not only did he win the 2016-17 Eredivisie title with the Dutch team, but he also won four cup competitions – something the Rangers must do.
Many argue that Gerrard only won one trophy out of a possible nine. But he beat the Gers in Europe to no end and stopped Celtic from 10 in a row.
But what he did fail in winning the Cups, and clearly van Bronckhorst could change that. It would heal the loss of the Gerrard icon.
Many Rangers fans have taken to Twitter after learning the news that van Bronckhorst could be targeted by the Gers board of directors, and they agree.
