Ravi Shastri’s ability to bring confidence in youth is incredible: Sunil Gavaskar.
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, on Saturday called him an “incredible” mentor with an “incredible” ability to motivate young people, even in their lower stages, with effusive praise for the national cricket coach Ravi Shastri.
Gavaskar’s opinion was seconded by the national team’s bowling coach, Bharath Arun.
“Only 10-15 minutes with Ravi Shastri after a practice session. You know that Ravi has the ability to give young people so much confidence, it’s amazing, ”Gavaskar said during a webinar to mark the launch of the book ‘1971: The Beginning of India’s Cricketing Greatness’ published by Harper Collins.
“If he (Shastri) believes in his ability and talent, there is no better man than Ravi Shastri to cheer on that young man. He will scold you, he will scold you, but at the same time, he will tell you what you can do to improve, he will show you, ”Gavaskar said.
The batting icon was also a compliment to Arun, who has prepared a first-class crop of fast bowlers playing in the same era, a rarity in Indian cricket.
“Then you have Bharat when you talk to some of the bowlers who did splendidly during the second half of the Australian tour, they are all full of praise for Bharat as to how he led them.
“That is what these young people need to do. Spend as much time as possible with Ravi Shastri and Bharat Arun. There are no better people than these two when you have doubts about yourself, ”Gavaskar said.
“You need people around you who believe in you and say ‘yes, you can do it,'” said the iconic hitter.
As for hitters, Gavaskar said that an international leader in willow management is always a judicious mix of talent and temperament.
“I have always believed that temperament is what separates men from boys. If talent and temperament are married, it will always turn out to be a good marriage.
“There are times when you feel like they don’t have much confidence in themselves and they have doubts about themselves, I think that those doubts about themselves are natural in the life of a young man.
“So sit down with people who are confident, believe in your abilities, and honestly this Indian team is lucky to have the support staff that they have.”
