The details about MLB The Show have been scarce to the present, in large part because of the impending lockout.
But only two days ago, Sony revealed a ton of new information about the colossal title of the sport. Which included The MLB The Show 22 release date, cover artist, and many other details.
MLB The Show 22 Cover Athlete
It’s true, on Monday 31 January, Sony released its official date for release and cover artist to MLB The Show 22. The Los Angeles Angels pitcher, Shohei Ohtani, has claimed the honor of being the cover star for this year’s edition.
Ohtani won the award of the AL MVP in 2021 after hitting .257/.372/.592 with 100 runs batted in and 26 stolen bases. I averaged 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.09 WHIP while striking out 156 batters over 130.1 innings of pitching.
The dazzling two-way superstar was one of the only AL players featured on this cover after Aaron Judge in 2018. The exterior features Bryce Harper, Javier Baez, and Fernando Tatis Jr., featured on the cover for the past three issues.
Additionally, Ohtani became the first Angels player ever to include as the front cover for MLB The Show, beating his teammate and former three-time MVP Mike Trout.
Release Date
However, this announcement of the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete wasn’t the only announcement for the legendary franchise.
Sony also announced when the game would likely release and on what systems.
This is the very first time in the history of MLB The Show the game will release for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
The Switch version will come with cross-play and cross-progression support for all the included game modes.
Furthermore, it expects that the regular Switch version will also price at a level comparable to the previous-gen models of the PS4 and the Xbox One, rather than the newer versions of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S.
But, it will not contain any exclusive next-gen features like The Stadium Creator.
In terms of the release date for the game, Sony revealed that fans of the game might be expecting MLB The Show 22 to be released 5 April 5, 2022.
The release date usually schedule to coincide with the beginning of the actual MLB season, even though it is one that fans could be waiting for a while.
