National Hero of Barbados: Rihanna Has Been Declared A National Hero By Officials In Her Home Country Of Barbados.
In the first significant event of the country’s existence as a republic, which was the ceremony in which Queen Elizabeth II was nominated as head of state, The 34-year old Fenty founder was awarded his title as National Hero.
The award-winning singer was presented at the first-ever presidential Inauguration Ceremony, during which Dame Sandra Mason became the island’s chief.
Prime Secretary Mia Mottley, who led the campaign to get Barbados to become a republican state, awarded the artist the award and, in her speech, referred to her 2012 hit song Diamonds.
“Above all else, commanding the imagination of the world through the pursuit of excellence, with her creativity, her discipline, and above all else, her extraordinary commitment to the land of her birth,” Mottley stated about the singer.
“May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honor to your nation by your works, by your actions.”
Additionally, Prince Charles attended the ceremony to commemorate the country’s departure from the Commonwealth.
“The creation of this republic offers a new beginning,” he declared during the ceremony.
“From the darkest days of our past and the appalling atrocity of slavery which forever stains our history, people of this island forged their path with extraordinary fortitude.”
