Virat Kohli’s captaincy in the Test squad ended disappointingly in January, with India defeating South Africa in their three-match red-ball series.
South Africa won 1-2, and Kohli dropped out of the captaincy following the series.
Kohli received lots of encouragement from the former Head Coach Ravi Shastri.
In an interview on India Today, Shastri said that should Kohli have remained as Test captain; the team would have achieved 50-60 wins.
Many people wouldn’t be able to comprehend his feat. But his remarks were not received positively by his former teammates Sanjay Manjrekar.
When speaking with News18, Manjrekar said that Shastri was a “huge fan” of Shastri but could not comprehend his remarks.
Manjrekar further declared the comments”Shastri 2.0″ “Shastri 2.0”.
“I don’t know how to answer that. I was a massive fan of Ravi Shastri. I was a player under him. He encouraged players, was a formidable athlete, and an older.
Shastri 2.0 is something Shastri 2.0 I’m not understanding. The way he speaks in public as usual, but I don’t react to it,” Shastri said.
“I am not trying to offend anyone. The guy doesn’t make very insightful remarks. You can clearly discern the motive behind it. It’s not a correct cricketing observation.” the cricketer added.
With Kohli having resigned as skipper of red balls today, the BCCI hasn’t announced a replacement for the Test captain as of yet.
The 33-year old also left the T20I captaincy following the T20 World Cup and was quickly dismissed from the position of ODI captain as well.
The BCCI confirmed Rohit Sharma as their new white-ball captain full-time in December.
India will be next in the line-up against West Indies in three ODIs, followed by more than a dozen T20Is in February.
