In heavy rain, a significantly improved Barcelona was desperate to get another strike in the second half after Ronald Araujo drew them level with a shot within the first 45 seconds.

“I am convinced that today we have lost two points. Nevertheless, we were better than we did and deserved to be victorious. I believe that’s apparent in our progress,” Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez spoke to reporters.

“We were unlucky. They scored in a set-piece. However, we were able to take advantage of many chances. The result, a draw against a top team such as Sevilla, isn’t too bad. However, it’s an unsatisfactory point and is not enough for us to move towards the top of the table. This win was slipped off our shoulders.”

Barcelona dominated the first period and had better control of the ball, and had the chance to have scored at the very least two times within the first 30 minutes.

However, Sevilla took advantage of the only chance which came their way during the first half by putting Gomez striking home a powerful strike.
Sevilla improved during the second period but was forced to switch to damage-limitation after Kunde was dismissed for a furious display following an incident with Jordi Alba near the area of contact.

After being challenged by the Barca defensive player, Kounde hurled the ball directly towards Alba’s head.

“It was a very complex game, and the red card did us in as we were at our best. However, Kounde recognizes that he committed an error.” Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui, who reporters interviewed, said.
